Privacy and terms of use

1. Who is responsible for the data

Family Calculator (“we”) runs Family Calculator, a personal and family budget web app.

2. What data we collect

• Account: email address, display name and password. The password is stored only as a hash; we cannot read it.
• Budget data that you or your family enter: transactions (amount, date, merchant, category, notes), subscriptions, budgets, currencies, custom categories.
• Text, voice messages and receipt photos you send for recognition. The content is sent to the AI provider for processing (section 4) and is not saved in our database; only the transaction you confirm remains.
• Telegram (optional): if you link the bot, we keep the chat identifier and your Telegram name and username.
• Technical error logs (error message, page, browser type), used only to fix defects. They do not contain passwords.
• Browser preferences (language, theme, currency) stored on your device. We do not use advertising cookies.

3. Why we use it

• To provide the service: sign-in, saving and syncing data between family members, reports.
• To keep the service secure and fix defects.

We do not sell data, we do not use it for advertising and we do not build profiles for third parties.

4. Who we share it with

A family’s data is visible to the members of that family. Other families cannot see it; access is restricted in the database.

We use providers that process data on our behalf:

• Supabase: database and authentication.
• Google (Gemini API): recognition of text, voice messages and receipt photos.
• Telegram: only if you use the bot.
• The app’s hosting provider.

Exchange rates come from MAIB and BNM; these sources receive no personal data.

We may disclose data where the law requires it.

5. How long we keep it

As long as you have an account. You can export your data (CSV) and delete your account at any time in Settings, through several confirmation steps.

Deleting the account removes the account, the sign-in and the Telegram link. If you are the only member, the whole family is deleted with its data. If the family has other members, the transactions you added stay with the family, no longer linked to your account, and the admin role passes to another member.

The family admin can delete all of the family’s data at any time.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port and object. Most of these you can exercise directly in the app (editing, CSV export, account deletion). For the rest, write to us.

You may complain to a data protection authority: in the Republic of Moldova, the National Center for Personal Data Protection; in the European Union, the authority of your country.

7. Security

The connection is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to each family’s data is isolated in the database. Passwords are stored as hashes. No measure guarantees absolute security, so we recommend a unique password and regular data exports.

8. Children

The service is not intended for people under 16.

9. Terms of use: the service

Family Calculator helps you track your own or your family’s spending. The service is provided “as is”, with no guarantee that it will run without interruption or errors.

It is not financial, tax or legal advice. Automatic recognition (AI) can be wrong: check amounts, categories and dates before saving. Exchange rates are indicative.

10. Terms of use: account and family

You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for the data you enter. Give accurate information and do not share your account.

The family admin invites and removes members and can delete the family’s data. Members see the family’s shared data.

11. Terms of use: rules

Do not use the service for illegal activity, do not try to access other families’ data, do not overload the service and do not bypass technical limits (for example, those of the AI features).

We may suspend accounts that break these rules.

12. Liability and ending

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses or for decisions made from the data in the app. Export your data regularly.

You can stop using the service at any time by deleting your account. The law of the Republic of Moldova applies.

13. Changes

We may update this document. The date of the last update is shown above; we will announce important changes in the app.
